1 / 3Shottr is a screenshot app for the Mac that goes well beyond the built-in tool. It captures, annotates, measures and shares screenshots, and it is especially loved by designers, front-end engineers and mobile developers who care about pixels. If you take screenshots to explain bugs, document interfaces or check spacing, Shottr makes the whole job faster. Shottr is an independent app with a reputation for being extremely light and quick: the download is only a few megabytes, it is native and optimized for Apple Silicon, and it takes about 17 milliseconds to grab a screenshot. Beyond the basics it has clever developer touches, such as a screen ruler that measures distances with the arrow keys, a color picker, contrast checks and OCR that also reads QR codes. It is actively developed, with frequent releases and a public feature poll, and integrates with Raycast and Alfred. Highlights: • Scrolling screenshots of long pages and chats, in any app or window • Annotation with text, arrows, freehand, highlights and spotlights • Pixelate or cleanly remove sensitive information, including a text-hiding mode • OCR that copies text from any area of the screen, and reads QR codes • Screen ruler and color picker for measuring and sampling pixels • Beautiful backgrounds with gradients, shadows and rounded corners • Pin screenshots as floating windows and overlay images for before/after comparisons • Upload to S3-compatible storage Shottr can be used for free for as long as you like; it occasionally asks you to consider buying a licence. The Basic tier is a one-time payment of US$12 and is required for commercial use, and the Friends Club is US$30 with experimental features and better support. It is not a subscription. Shottr runs on macOS 10.15 or later and can also be installed with Homebrew.
