1 / 6Fresh is a modern terminal text editor and IDE for people who want the comfort of VS Code or Sublime Text without leaving the terminal. It uses the shortcuts you already know, supports the mouse, menus and a command palette, and needs no configuration. Behind that friendly surface are serious features: language servers, git review, multi-cursor editing, remote editing over SSH, and workspaces built for running coding agents next to your code. Fresh is written in Rust by Noam Lewis, who built the first version with Claude Code. In his Show HN post he described giving the agent strong, specific direction on architecture, code structure and UX while supervising it closely, and said Claude multiplied his productivity by at least a factor of three. Since then the project has grown quickly, to more than 9,000 GitHub stars, frequent releases and an active Discord. It is known for opening multi-gigabyte files almost instantly, with very little memory overhead. Highlights: • Familiar keybindings, full mouse support, menus and a command palette with a fuzzy file finder • LSP support for go-to-definition, references, rename, diagnostics and autocompletion • Built-in git log, git blame and hunk-by-hunk diff review with staging • An orchestrator that gives each task its own git worktree, terminals and coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or Aider) • Remote workspaces over SSH, in dev containers or in Kubernetes • Opens multi-gigabyte files with negligible memory overhead • Multi-cursor editing, split panes, an integrated terminal, keyboard macros and an optional Vim mode • TypeScript plugins in a sandbox, plus a theme picker, a settings UI and a keybinding editor Fresh is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and FreeBSD as a single self-contained binary, with packages for Homebrew, winget, AUR, deb, rpm, Nix, Flatpak, npm and cargo. A Fresh Desktop app is also available.
