Ice is a menu bar manager for the Mac. If your menu bar is crowded with status icons, or the MacBook notch keeps swallowing them, Ice lets you hide the ones you rarely need, keep the important ones visible and get to everything else with a hover, click or scroll. It is aimed at Mac users who like a tidy desktop and want more control than macOS offers on its own. Ice is made by independent developer Jordan Baird and became one of the most popular free alternatives to paid utilities such as Bartender, with close to 30,000 stars on GitHub. Beyond hiding icons, it tries to be a complete menu bar toolkit: you can drag icons into visible, hidden and always-hidden sections, show hidden items in a separate Ice Bar below the menu bar (handy on notched MacBooks), search every menu bar item, and restyle the bar itself with tints, shadows, borders and rounded or split shapes. It is open source, and the developer is open that the app is still in active development, with a public roadmap of upcoming features. Highlights: • Hide menu bar items, including an always-hidden section • Reveal hidden items by hovering, clicking an empty area, or scrolling and swiping on the menu bar • Ice Bar that shows hidden items below the menu bar, useful with the notch • Drag-and-drop layout editor for arranging individual menu bar items • Menu bar item search • Appearance options: solid or gradient tint, shadow, border and custom shapes • Hotkeys for toggling sections, the search panel and the Ice Bar, plus custom item spacing (beta) Ice is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license, and the developer accepts donations through GitHub Sponsors and Buy Me a Coffee. It runs on macOS 14 Sonoma and later, and you can install it from GitHub releases or with Homebrew.
